Overview

Glenhaven is a semi-rural suburb located 32 kilometers north-west of Sydney’s central business district, within The Hills Shire and part of the Hills District. Known for its leafy surroundings and tranquil atmosphere, Glenhaven blends suburban living with a touch of rural charm.

Historically, the area was originally known as Sandhurst, a name still present in one of its main streets. Due to confusion with another suburb in Melbourne, a public meeting was held to rename the area. The name “Glenhaven” was chosen to reflect its valley setting, with “The Glen” referring to the upper part of the valley and “The Haven” to the lower portion.

Glenhaven has historical significance as it lies on the route of the Great North Road, which connected Parramatta to the Hunter Valley. One of the area’s early settlers, John Evans, played a role in establishing roads in the region, including what is now known as Evans Road. The area was once abundant with wildflowers such as waratahs, Christmas bush, and native orchids, adding to its natural beauty.

The suburb’s post office, originally named Sandhurst Post Office, opened on 11 July 1892 and was renamed Glenhaven in 1893 before closing in 1972. Today, Glenhaven remains a peaceful suburb with a strong sense of community and natural appeal.
